If you heard spontaneous screams of joy in your neighborhood Monday night or saw the ensuing social media storm of hashtags like #britneyisback, #workbitch, #britneyisgod and #itsBB, it was because Britney Spears released the official video for her new hit Work Bitch.
If you haven’t seen it yet we suggest you stop what you’re doing and jump into the video below. Britney is indeed back.
The video features Britney in a variety of sexy and revealing outfits as she plays master and leader of a group of women as they dance in the desert and in a club. The clip has very clear BDSM connotations with Britney donning a whip and holding her dancers on leashes wearing bondage-inspired lingerie.
Besides the visual artistry and sheer scale of the video, it’s worth noting that Britney is actually moving and dancing at a pace (and with an ease) not seen since before her epic 2007 breakdown. She whips her blonde hair, gyrates her hips, and bust some signature Britney moves. This is most likely the main reason why many are heralding this video and her ensuing December 3rd album drop as her big comeback.
Another significant indicator of the power of Britney is the fact that the Work Bitch video is set to break all records for number of views within the first week of release. It’s even on pace to break the groundbreaking record of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball, which reached an impressive 19 million views on Vevo its first day.
With that kind of success rate there could be some truth to the photo parody circling the internet. It shows Britney standing on top of a reversed pyramid holding a group of women clad in bondage gear by a leash. The women on the ground wearing collars are named Katy, Beyonce, Xtina, Gaga and Rihanna.
Britney is humbly labelled as God…
